William Archie Karst

William Archie Karst (Bill), beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully from complications from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis on July 2, 2011. Bill was born in Olean, N.Y. on August 12, 1935 to Archie William Karst and Francis Matilda Eaton. He moved to Jacksonville at age 13 where he graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1953. After graduation he served in the Army during the Korean War. He attended school at the University of Florida where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. Bill resided in Callahan for the last 35 years. He was a Boy Scout, registered Girl Scout, president of the West Nassau Band Booster and president of the Dad’s Club. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years Shirley Jean Karst, daughters Victoria Karst and Leanne (Pat) Ludvigsen and and granddaughters Lindsey, Heather, Shelby, Delaney, and Sydney. He is also survived by siblings Thom (Jessie Jean)Karst, Susan (JD) Holton, Nancy (Ray) Boles, and John (Michelle) Karst. He was preceded in death by his brother Herbert Karst (Charon Stokes). Visitation will be held on Tuesday 7/5/2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Callahan with funeral services also in the church on Wednesday, 7/6/2011 @ 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville (Gate #5). The family would like to thank the intensive care nursing staff at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville for all of their attentive care and especially Dr. Jennifer Fulton for her determination and compassion.
