Sandra K. Anderson
December 15, 1943 - April 11, 2021
Sandra Kaye Anderson, 77, went home to be with her Lord & Savior April 11, 2021. She was the wife of Morris L. Anderson, who shared 52 wonderful and happy years of marriage together, the amazing mother of Michael S. Anderson and Vicki L. Burton (Mark Burton) and the loving grandmother of Dakota Burton. She was born in 1943 in Big Springs, Texas to World War II Veteran Arthur Kummer and his wife Polly Kummer, a renowned creative artist. From a very early age, Sandy loved dancing. Her performances in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance were award winning and regularly featured on local news. She was well known for her immense collection of valuable dolls from around the world, collected since she was a child. She was also an accomplished sax player, and she turned heads as the St. Augustine High Schools head Majorette. When she wasn’t leading parades or dancing, she taught children baton twirling. After graduating, she opened her own studio, The Academy of Dance. Her students adored her, and Sandy continued instructing over the following six decades, and in her later years, also performed regularly with The Sassy Tappers and shared her joy with all ages. During her life she was also an artist, writer, gardener, an award-winning floral arranger, and even a successful entrepreneur. Extremely warm and outgoing, Sandy was a natural fit for sales; she won countless awards as one of the very top sales representatives in Avon, and her successful franchise lasted for nearly two decades. Known as a fantastic cook- her “best chili” title was undisputed, and many of her friends would stand in line to get their hands on the wonderful delicacies Sandy made for her yearly Avon Christmas parties. Sandy lived in Jacksonville, Florida with her husband Morris, for over 50 years, and she helped lead the growth of her community through her event planning, humanitarian endeavors, and as the Editor of the weekly community newsletter for many years. She also helped take care of her father Art, who lived to be over 100 years old. Her children credit their successes to Sandy’s strength, drive, and creativity. She was proud of her entire family, and she especially cherished the title of grandma. Over the last 7 years, with the help of her family and close neighbors, Sandra battled memory loss with dementia. But her family helps keep her memories alive; she is remembered for her joy, her love, and her compassion. She is remembered for her humor and laughter. She is remembered by all those whose lives were touched, molded, and changed. And she is now, without any doubt, dancing again, and also likely writing a new community newsletter. Sandy will be missed dearly. We will celebrate her life on Saturday, April 17 at 2p.m. at Callahan Funeral Home, 617365 Brandies Ave. Callahan, Florida 32011.
