Rev. Marvin Edwin Batton

Marvin Edwin Batton, 86, passed away suddenly Friday, October 14, 2011 at his home in Hilliard. He was born on April 25, 1925 in Blackshear, Ga. Bro. Batton was a minister and pastored the Highlands Assembly Church in Jacksonville for 43 years serving the people of that area. In 1942, at the age of 17 and with his parents’ signature, he enlisted in the Army and was in the 101st Airborne division, proudly serving his country for 4 years. Bro. Batton was employed at Jacksonville Shipyard in 1947 and retired in 1990 after 43 years of loyal service. He is survived by his wife Charlotte Eileen Batton, a son Dr. Terry (Joyce) Batton of Georgetown, Ga., A daughter Wynette (Rev. Johnnie) Griffith of Crestview, Fl., three step-children Nadine Loyd of Hilliard, Roland Logan of Callahan, and Verjean Testone of Hilliard, as well as a sister Marvelle Vaughn of Pasadena, Tx., several grandchildren & great-grandchildren. The visitation & graveside Funeral Services were held on Tues. October 18, 2011 in Evergreen Cemetery @ 2:00p.m. with the Rev. David Griffith and Rev. Jonathon Griffith of Crestview officiating,both grandsons of Bro. Batton. Bro. Batton was a kind and gentle man, loved the Lord and shared the Word of God with many people. He will be greatly missed.
