John Raymond Harrell passed from this Earth into heaven Wednesday, November 24 at his home. He was born October 10, 1956 in Jacksonville, FL to Orville F. and Alice Smith Harrell of Callahan. Johnny Ray or JR as he was sometimes called, grew up in Callahan and lived there all his life other than the 4 years in which he served his country in the US Air Force. After his service, he went to work with Anheuser-Busch and retired after 33 years of service. He was an avid Gators fan and in his younger days, enjoyed attending home games and a few away games each year. In 1995, he attended the historic Florida – Georgia football game played at Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA. He was also in attendance when the Gators won the National Championship at the Sugar Bowl in 1997. He was predeceased by his father Orville and brother Charlie and is survived by his mother Alice, brother Michael (Pete) and wife of 38 years, Sherry. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, Aunts, Uncles and extended family. Viewing will be held at Callahan Funeral Home on Brandies Avenue on 12/02/2021 @from 4 to 6 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL on 12/03/21 @ 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
